Quality Assurance Analyst (Ref #D2LQAA2010C)

General Description:

Quality Assurance Analysts at Desire2Learn use every trick and resource at their disposal to try and break our eLearning platform. The successful candidate will employ testing techniques on software components as they are developed, ensuring that the solutions are practical, stable, and user-friendly. QA Analysts work closely with their fellow product team developers and designers, in a collaborative and open environment. While this position does not involve programming of our products, it could include development or writing drivers and scripts to expedite the testing process.

Type of Position: Co-op (4, 8, or 16 month co-op placements)

Location: Kitchener, Ontario

Main Duties:

  • Designing and executing test cases
  • Taking a planned and self-directed exploratory approach to testing
  • Hunting for bugs in the software
  • Investigating problems, finding the root cause, and documenting findings
  • Raising usability concerns and proposing solutions to problems after performing thorough investigation, taking into account the needs of all clients
  • Testing bug fixes to determine if they are valid and complete
  • Performing scenario-based testing from the perspective of various client roles
  • Validating crucial design decisions and trying to find flaws with them
  • Proposing suggestions for additions and improvements to the software
  • Communicating testing status, findings, and progress on a regular basis

Requirements:

  • Experience in a software testing environment would be an asset
  • Expert working knowledge of computers and excellent typing skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience with issue-tracking software and with testing database-driven web applications is an asset
  • Experience with any of JavaScript, VBScript, CSS, ASP, and ASP .NET, knowledge of SQL, and exposure to relational databases would be assets

The successful candidate will be able to clearly explain ideas and concepts both orally and in written format and to organize information logically and effectively. They will possess strong deductive reasoning, extreme attention to detail, persistence, patience, and creativity. The ability to multi-task and learn quickly in a fast-paced environment is a must. Candidates will need strong analytical and problem-solving skills, enjoy project-based work and possess a positive and enthusiastic attitude.
